What is PBABJ?

The Palm Beach Association of Black Journalists (PBABJ) was founded in 1987 to improve the presentation of news and conditions for Black journalists in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties. Its members work in print, broadcast, Internet and media-related businesses. Today, PBABJ has a more charitable focus providing scholarships and sponsoring seminars free to the community. The organization has 501(c)(3) non-profit status. The Palm Beach County-Treasure Coast area is television market number 40. The major newspapers have a combined daily circulation of about 500,000. Members also serve in numerous community organizations and participate in other community events.

Congratulations

Journalism Day

Congratulations to Taja Slydell, a Florida State University freshman, who received a Palm Beach Association of Black Journalists Scholarship. Taja plans to major in print journalism and hopes to publish her own magazine one day.

Upcoming 20th Anniversary

The Palm Beach Association of Black Journalists will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a reception at the Holiday Inn Conference Center at 1301 BELVEDERE ROAD in WEST PALM BEACH on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. We will network, socialize and recognize our founding members.

PBABJ's First Poetry Slam a Hit!

Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons, Grammy award winning singer-songwriter Betty Wright and PBABJ President Rhonda Swan pose with students who participated in PBABJ's first poetry slam Words Not Weapons on March 16, 2007.

Simmons, co-founder of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, served as a contest judge and Wright spoke to students about the importance of writing.
